Perth’s Best Japanese Food Truck

Maneki Neko Perth (Rating: All the stars in the Manga Verse)

I’ve been following the Maneki Neko Perth Food Truck via their Facebook page for over a year. Trying to get my tastebuds to correspond with my parent’s desire to drive to somewhere far from where we live during mealtime has meant the planets really did need to align. After such a long time, and this becoming my own manga-style hero quest, being able to go to the Royal Perth Show and finding they were a resident truck in the Taste of Asia, meant that I was on a mission, and after all my badgering, my sister, Mum and Dad were definitely behind me.

I anticipated a rush of all Perth showgoers wanting Maneki Neko, because really who needs another chicko roll when you can have perfect Karage Chicken? I wasn’t wrong there was a long line and I was happy to be in it. I mean seriously, these folks had the most discerning palettes at the Royal Perth Show. I was lucky enough to have some cash from the fundraising to be able to try a few things, and Dad had decided this was more a family meal than a solo effort for my blog, so we managed to choose a fair sampling of their menu.

The verdict? Well, I’ve begun a countdown until the next time I get to eat the fine fare of Maneki Neko Perth.

Favourite dish? Honestly, all of them. Each dish was perfect: Karage Chicken was moist and crunchy, Sushi rice was the perfect sweet-sour, Teriyaki Chicken glaze was fresh and succulent, Shitake Mushroom was strong in flavour and packed a crunch and their fries, crispy and light. How did they do that? Make all that food perfectly, amid the throngs of Show goers? I think it is because they are committed to doing what they do brilliantly and spreading the joy of Japanese cuisine. I’m grateful they do and can’t wait to go back.  Drop a line in the comments, if you have tried their food and loved it like me!

Value for money? Look it’s not super cheap but the servings are generous and balanced coming with rice and salad and the flavour makes it worth it!
